Executive Summary:
Shooters Hill Sixth Form College overcame tech frustrations by adopting Vivi, gaining wireless screen sharing, streamlined digital signage, and integrated emergency alerts to create a more engaging, secure campus.
Background
At Shooters Hill Sixth Form College in London’s Royal Borough of Greenwich, the mission is clear; to unlock the full potential of every student by fostering a passion for learning. With 2,500 students, the college sought a technological solution to elevate teaching and create an engaging educational environment that aligns with this mission.
Challenge:
Shooters Hill understands the critical role technology plays in education but also the frustrations outdated tools can bring. The constant inconvenience and expense of replacing broken HDMI cables allowing teachers to connect to classroom displays strained resources and disrupted valuable instruction time. IT Engineer Brett Cotterrell shared their frustration, “The amount of money we kept spending to replace HDMI cables was stacking up.”
Prior to implementing Vivi, Shooters Hill used another provider for digital signage. While it was a functional solution, it lacked the versatility and integrated features that the college desired, especially in terms of wireless connectivity and emergency alert capabilities. The college needed a more comprehensive system that could unify screen sharing, digital signage, and security alerts within a single platform.
The college knew there had to be a better way. They needed a solution that would not only end the reliance on HDMI cables but also offer a seamless and feature-rich wireless experience for both teachers and students.
Solution:
Shooters Hill found the perfect solution in Vivi. The platform combines wireless screen mirroring, digital signage and emergency alerts, offering impressive audio and video quality within a user-friendly interface that even the most tech-averse staff could easily navigate.
“Vivi looked incredible in terms of the picture quality, sound, and the ability to have it all in one,” Cotterrell shared. “The touch function was brilliant…” Vivi wasn’t just about replacing outdated technology – it was an investment in a system that could elevate teaching by allowing teachers to share content wirelessly from anywhere in the classroom, streamline IT processes, and enhance safety across the entire campus.
The inclusion of Vivi’s emergency lockdown functionality was a game-changer for Shooters Hill. It allowed the school to broadcast real-time alerts and evacuation instructions to all screens in an emergency, significantly improving campus security and ensuring the safety of students and staff.
Outcome
Vivi changed the classroom dynamic for Shooters Hill. Vivi’s wireless screen mirroring empowered teachers to leave their desks and move freely around classrooms to engage directly with their students. “Teachers don’t like hard, they like easy,” Cotterrell observed. “It’s so easy. Three buttons and you’re already sharing your screen.”
Beyond enhancing teaching, Vivi’s emergency alerts added a critical layer of safety to the campus. Now, the college can broadcast alerts to every Vivi-enabled display, giving students and staff clear, actionable information in critical situations. Additionally, Vivi’s digital signage feature maximised the use of their display infrastructure, delivering impactful messages across campus.
Maximised Usage: Vivi is now installed in every classroom, including new buildings, and is used for both teaching and staff training. Its simple, intuitive interface allows teachers to log in and start sharing screens in just three clicks, making it accessible for all staff, regardless of their tech proficiency.
Implementation and adoption
Implementing Vivi across the college was remarkably easy. The intuitive system, combined with excellent support from the Vivi team, allowed the IT department to set up each unit quickly and efficiently. “I was able to set up each machine from my desk! It was very user-friendly and straightforward,” Cotterrell noted.
The admin interface was just as intuitive. Active Directory synchronisation made it easy to configure user settings, and Vivi’s comprehensive onboarding process, ensured that teachers were well-trained and comfortable using the system from day one.
Looking ahead:
As Shooters Hill expands its facilities, Vivi remains central to their technology strategy. The school looks forward to testing untried features, such as the live school-wide announcements. Cotterrell appreciated Vivi’s customer-centric approach: “It’s great to know our feedback is considered, and I’ve already submitted product enhancement suggestions directly to the Vivi product board.”
