Background
Zion-Benton Township High School District, (D126), serves over 2,400 students in grades 9-12 from Zion, Illinois and surrounding communities. Located about an hour and a half north of Chicago, the district serves a diverse student population.
The Challenge
In 2020, D126 began to explore different screen mirroring technologies to provide more interactivity and flexibility in classrooms. According to Cheri Bridge, Ed.D., the director of technology, administrators in the district wanted to find ways to encourage active student engagement and to offer teachers opportunities to give immediate feedback on student work. They also wanted to equip the entire campus with technology that would help advance school objectives and their school mission.
The Solution
The district was quick to select Vivi as the best choice for screen mirroring, putting Vivi in every classroom and throughout their school buildings. As Bridge says, “we’re really putting that Vivi technology everywhere we possibly can.” After the initial implementation, the district focused on ensuring everyone was getting the benefit of Vivi’s robust solution. Says Bridge, “our focus shifted this year to really making sure that our teachers and our IT staff are really building up their capacity, and being able to really harness everything that Vivi can do.”
Zackary Livington, the principal at Zion-Benton Township High School, appreciates all that Vivi brings and how it removes previous barriers, such as wires, connectors and HDMI cables, to classroom screen sharing. He shares “Our teachers love the fact that students are able to share their screens and teachers are able to give feedback…and also to empower students to show what they are doing.”
Beyond their excitement about Vivi’s classroom capabilities, D126 administrators appreciate the central management and permissions Vivi offers when it comes to digital signage and ongoing management. Bridge is also enthusiastic about the ability to use Vivi as part of their emergency notification procedures, using their screens to communicate with the entire building when something is happening.
